15 October to 19 October

Dear boys and girls,

There will be no classes next week from 15 October to 19 October.
Please take note that you have to complete the following work:

1. English SA2 2006 (1 h 30 min - please time yourselves)
2. Math SA2 2006 (1 h 30 min)
3. Math SA2 2005 (1 h 30 min)
4. 2 Picture Compositions (45 min)

Take some time to improve on your writing. Remember the following:
  • Describe each picture more thoroughly with the help of adjectives, adverbs and verbs we have learnt throughout this year.
  • Write about the characters' feelings and thoughts too.
  • Most importantly, check your tenses and spelling!
  • Plan (10-15 min) --> Draft (20-25 min) --> Edit (10 min)
Spend some time to revise for your upcoming exams. Also, don't forget to play, eat well and sleep well too. Do rest your eyes after 30-45 minutes of reading.

To our Muslim classmates, Elly and Nabilah, Selamat Hari Raya Adilfitri!

Love,
Ms. Emilia Lo

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Dear children,

Here are the lyrics to the song, 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. The song was originally composed for the movie, 'The Wizard of Oz' in 1939.
Do practice singing the song. Having heard some of you sing today, I must say that some of you can sing very melodiously.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

- Music by Harold Arlen and Lyrics by E.Y. Harburg

We're Skydiving Elephants

Dear boys and girls,

Read and enjoy!

We're Skydiving Elephants

We're skydiving elephants, bulging and bold.
We're dazzling and daring; a sight to behold.
We leap from our airplane at dizzying heights,
to soar through the sky on spectacular flights.

Our airborne maneuvers are one-of-a-kind.
We spin in the air with our trunks intertwined.
We tuck and we tumble, we twist and we twirl.
We somersault freely, we wiggle and whirl.

We flip and we flutter while turning our tails,
unfurling our ears like magnificent sails.
We swivel and swim in a synchronized crawl
or swan-dive in spirals as earthward we fall.

The onlookers gawk in an awestricken trance
to witness our wonderful aerial dance.
They clap at our kicks and rejoice at our rolls,
and shriek as our landings leave walloping holes.

Funny poem

Dear boys and girls,

Have a fruitful revision this weekend. Just a reminder, these are the topics to be tested for our Termly Review 3:

English

Units 1 to 7

Mathematics

Units 1 to 7, Unit 8 – Measuring in metres & centimetres, Comparing length in metres & centimetres, Heuristics – Looking for Patterns

Here is the funny poem you illustrated last week in your groups. I hope it puts a smile on all your beautiful faces.

I Bought a Pet Tomato

I bought a pet tomato
and I tried to teach him tricks,
but he wasn't any good at
catching balls or fetching sticks.

He could never catch a Frisbee,
and he wouldn't sit or speak,
though we practiced every afternoon
and evening for a week.

He refused to shake or wave or crawl
or beg or take a bow,
and I tried, but couldn't make him bark
or get him to meow.

He was terrible at playing dead.
He couldn't jump a rope.
When he wouldn't do a single trick
I simply gave up hope.

Though I liked my pet tomato,
I returned him with regret.
Boy, I sure do hope this watermelon
makes a better pet.
